How to Help Victims of the California Wildfires

Ways You Can Help Those Affected by the California Wildfires (Without Spending Any Money)

As the Camp, Woolsey, and Hill Fires rage through California, both California residents and organizations are seeking assistance.

The three fires have forced thousands of people to flee their homes and the Camp Fire alone has resulted in 56 fatalities thus far, making it the most deadly fire in California history. While President Trump has declared the fires an emergency disaster, meaning federal aid will be provided, the affected communities are still in desperate need – and you can help.

Although donating money is the most beneficial way to help victims, there are still plenty of other ways you can help if you’re tight on funds. Below are just a few ways to get involved.

Open Your Home

For anyone who lives near the affected area and has space in their home to host evacuees or workers and volunteers, Airbnb has a designated page where you can sign up to provide a safe place to stay.

Volunteer

If you are able to give your time to physically help those in need, non-profit organizations Caring Choices and the American Red Cross are both looking for volunteers.

If you have experience in animal care, you may also apply to volunteer for the Humane Society of Ventura County.

Check out the California Volunteers website to see other volunteer opportunities.

If you can – donate:

If you aren’t in the California area or if you have the means to donate, a wide variety of organizations are currently accepting both food items and money in order to provide to those in need and to prepare for the coming months of recovery from the fires.

GoFundMe has a list of crowdfunding donation options designated to the California fires.

The Red Cross, California Community Foundation, United Way LA, LA Fire Department Foundation, Salvation Army, LA County Animal Care Foundation, Enloe Medical Center, and Baby2Baby are just a few of the associations taking money donations at this time specifically for the California fires.

You can even donate non-perishable food items to the Salvation Army Ventura Corps if you live in the California area.
