Connecting Charleston and Mount Pleasant, the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge was opened in July 2005 and at that time, it was the longest cable-stayed bridge in the western hemisphere with a span of 1,546 feet. Named in honor of Charleston-born former US Congressman, Arthur Ravenel Jr. It is also known as the Copper River Bridge.

16. Take a ferry ride to Ford Sumpter

Established in 1773, the Charleston Museum is known as the first museum in the United State. Charleston is often credited as the birthplace of American golf along with being home to Harleston Green (established in 1786) which is the first golf club in this country. I would encourage you to visit Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens to dive into the history of enslaved people along with insights into the plantation’s farming practices. Another landmark of Charleston’s history is the Edmonton Alston House. It has witnessed the American Civil War, an earthquake in 1886, and a few hurricanes. For the history enthusiasts, the McLeod Plantation has guided tours to explore African American history. The Drayton Hall is a must-see for archeology aficionados as it is an active archeological site and over a million artefacts have been found after excavating 2% of the property.
